ACCENT PLANTS UP TO 5' HIGH IN CALIFORNIA

Sometimes in a garden it is nice to have an accent plant that is bigger than a small shrub yet smaller than a tree. Such a plant can make for a great sculpture in your garden. In one of my clients front yard we planted a Mcminn Manzanita (pictured) which will reach 6' at maturity followed by some Autumn Sages around it. This is also a nice way to add some color to your garden. Below is a list of California native plants that will work nicely as an accent up to 5' high.
  • Amorpha fruticosa
  • Arctostaphylos 'Howard McMinn' (pictured)
  • Arctostaphylos 'Sentinel'
  • Calycanthus occidentalis
  • Carpenteria californica
  • Ceanothus 'Concha'
  • Ceanothus 'Julie Phelps'
  • Ceanothus 'Skylark'
  • Cercis occidentalis
  • Cleome isomeris
  • Comarostaphylis diversifolia
  • Dendromecon rigida
  • Fallugia paradoxa
  • Fremontia species & hybrids
  • Heteromeles arbutifolia
  • Mahonia 'Golden Abundance'
  • Pinus contorta
  • Pinus monophylla
  • Rhamnus 'Eve Case'
  • Ribes speciosum
  • Thus lentii
  • Tecoma Stans
